About Sri Sri Gurukuls(The Heritage Schools)

Welcome to Sri Sri Gurukuls, an embodiment of Vedic wisdom, where the legacy of our rich heritage thrives.
Founded by the esteemed Sri Sri Ravishankar Ji, a recipient of the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award, Sri Sri Gurukuls are dedicated to preserving and propagating the ancient Vedic knowledge in its purest and most essential form. Our institution, Sri Sri Gurukuls, is steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding our Vedic Heritage through the oral tradition, ensuring that these timeless teachings are passed down to future generations.

Vision

At Sri Sri Gurukuls, our vision is clear: to protect and preserve the essence of our Vedic heritage. We believe that Vedic education is fundamental to the development of the human mind and the establishment of a peaceful society rooted in values such as non-violence, Vasudaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), and respect for nature. Our mission is to nurture these values through education.

Background

For over 1200 years, Bharatiya Sanskriti (Indian Culture) endured external invasions that sought to systematically dismantle our traditional educational methods. It is our unwavering conviction that Vedic education is integral to nurturing a holistic, harmonious society. The wisdom contained within the Vedas is a timeless guide that promotes not only individual growth but also the welfare of society as a whole.

Our Actions

Sri Sri Gurukuls have taken significant steps to realize this vision. We have established Vedic Gurukuls, with the first one in Bangalore, followed by an additional 13 across India. These Gurukuls impart Vedic Education to 515 students and offer training in Agama Shastra to 235 students. Currently, we are in the process of establishing two more Gurukuls.

One of our most precious Gurukuls is located at the Art of Living – VVMVP Ashram in Nagpur, which was initiated on August 15, 2015. By 2022, it had already completed seven successful years, with 25 students and 3 dedicated teachers. By 2023, we anticipate that the student strength will double to 50.

Our Gurukuls offer comprehensive education, covering eight different branches (shakhas) of the four Vedas, while also preparing students in modern subjects. These students are registered with external bodies like Sandipani (MSRVVP), Ujjain, and the respective state boards of school education, which conduct annual examinations. Sri Sri Veda Pathashala, an umbrella management body, ensures that all Gurukuls adhere to uniform standards in academics, lifestyle, and facilities. Graduates of our program are well-equipped for government jobs, various competitive examinations, teaching Vedic wisdom, becoming professors in Sanskrit and related subjects, or even establishing their own schools.

Importantly, Sri Sri Gurukuls are residential schools that offer free education to students. The expenses related to education and personal requirements are entirely funded by grants from trusts associated with the Art of Living Foundation and donations from fellow citizens of our nation. Beyond the establishment costs of Gurukuls, the annual expenditure per student exceeds Rs 60,000, which covers food, tuition, books, clothing, and other personal expenses.

Sri Sri Gurukuls are not just institutions; they are sanctuaries for Vedic wisdom and beacons of hope for those seeking to embrace the invaluable knowledge of our ancient heritage. Join us on this remarkable journey of enlightenment and cultural preservation.

Holistic Education

The Gurukuls have a holistic approach to education. The primary subject is Vedas. The student picks one Veda and branch of Veda to specialise in. The extracurricular activities give them the arts, yoga, meditation, music, and cooking. The modern subjects keep them up to date in communication and general knowledge so they will become pillars of society.

  • Vedic Wisdom: We teach Vedic knowledge in eight branches, known as “Shakhas,” of the four Vedas.
  • Modern Subjects: Alongside Vedic wisdom, students also receive education in Sanskrit, English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Computer Operations.
  • Board Examinations: Our students register as external candidates with boards such as Sandipani (MSRVVP), Ujjain, and state boards of education. These boards conduct annual examinations to assess our students’ progress.
  • Outstanding Performance: Our students consistently excel in their studies and have achieved top ranks in their respective branches during examinations.
  • Extracurricular Activities: We believe in holistic development. In addition to academics, children also engage in activities like yoga, martial arts, music, cooking and gardening. The availability of these activities depends on the presence of qualified teachers in each Gurukul.
